American experts use of genetically modified bacteria to
Fight HIV
A new dawn of the fight against AIDS, the United States
scientists have successfully stored in the body genetically
modified bacteria to produce chemical substances to prevent
HIV transmission. The National Cancer Institute conducted
the study still at the preliminary stage, but researcher
at the hope of eventually find effective and cheaper cost
of a new method to defeat AIDS.
Until December 2004, the world's 39.4 million people suffering
from AIDS or infected with a virus. Most of the infections
are in the Department of intestinal and genital area exposed
to the virus, "stroke", the surface of these parts
are usually covered with a layer of bacteria.
Fellow GM one species of bacteria, such as colon bacteria
GM, can secrete proteins to prevent HIV infection of their
target cells. When researchers will genetically modified
bacteria into the mice, bacteria in the intestine at the
end of successful breeding in the vagina also find a relatively
small number of bacteria.
Researcher found that there are methods to prevent the
spread of AIDS forcing an urgent need to, particularly developing
countries, AIDS grim. Scientists are studying coating the
genitals of a microbicide gel or emulsion to prevent AIDS
transmission. But researcher said these microbicides to
sex before conducting smear, limiting its use.
